Children Chipolatas

We have recently been enjoying this adventure-filled book:

in which the pirate dinosaurs try to capture children and make them into their favourite, "children chipolatas."

It has some great key ingredients for kids: danger, dinosaurs, pirates, heroes and heroines, explosions, battles, and of course, sausages. K and J liked this book so much that I decided to take them to our local butcher so we could find out how they make sausages!

The kids were definitely riveted. It was disgusting but compelling. We all learnt a lot.

Suffice to say, I won't be eating these again in a hurry. ;0)

Summer Lovin' Today

This is my favourite salad of this summer. Here's the recipe if you'd like to try it. It's very easy.

1. Slice an onion and put in in a pan to start frying with some butter.

2. Throw a bunch of rocket into a salad bowl.

3. Add Lebanese cucumber, tinned baby beets, halved cherry tomatoes and feta.

4. To the onion in the pan, add a teaspoon of brown sugar and a splash of balsamic vinegar. This is my amateur way of caramelising the onion. When the onion is to your liking (I like it almost burnt) then tip it onto your salad. You're done!

Some optional extras are: roast pumpkin, sunflower seeds, extra balsamic and olive oil or whatever you think will suit your tastebuds. Happy eating!
