Easter

I hope you had a wonderful Easter! Now that I'm having a little blogging frenzy, I'll post a few photos from our recent Easter which involved lots of cuteness, fun, anxiety about perpetuating a lie (about the Easter bunny) and me trying really hard to be relaxed about the amount of chocolate being consumed. I think I must've had a sort of panicky grimace on my face. And then Matt and me eating lots of chocolate when the kids were in bed.

Look at these cuties playing hide the eggs and not eating any because they had to wait for Easter. So much joy! And delayed gratification! That's character building, right?

Our decorated Easter table:

Jimmy gets SO into Easter, I just love it.

All the gorgeous cousins:

Our Easter cake. Nanny Alison loved it and raved about it until she found out that Matt had baked it. Then she said, "Well actually, Matt, if I was going to say one thing, it could have been a bit more moist. But other than that you did a good job."

Easter Mountain Climbing

We spent Easter Sunday day-camping with friends, climbing Mt Ngungun, one of the Glasshouse mountains. We set off intrepidly...

but I didn't mind keeping a more relaxed pace with our youngest mountaineer. We found lots of interesting things along the way.

After meandering gently upwards for a little while, we came to the exciting part. Grandma Nani shouldered Jimmy and took off! (She's like that. I think she only sleeps four hours a night.)
It was a wonderful track, full of gnarled roots that had me in mind of "Lord of the Rings".

Matt climbed to the rescue (a bit nervous himself) when Miss G got the heebie jeebies in the steep and slippery cave. I loved the cave because it was great preparation for our upcoming unit on early humans.
Our expedition party! Still got more climbing to do though...

Jimmy wanted to dismount and go it alone. He did an awesome job; we were proud of our little troopers.

Made it! This summit really tested my commitment to allowing the children to take responsibility for themselves. Gulp! Gosh, it was very nerve-wracking. There were many commands of "SIT DOWN! ON YOUR BOTTOM!"

I think we all enjoyed a good sense of achievement.

We took our time on the descent and had fun eating salad rolls and making ochre paint. Yesss! More prep for early humans ;0)

Past the Scribbly Gums and we were down.

Back at camp we enjoyed a second lunch and a lie around on the ground. Then it was time to start the campfire.

Jim had a great little set-up making roasted guavas. They tasted a bit like tomatoes...I found a couple of bites was plenty.
Boys and fires. It's ingrained in that deep deep limbic brain.

The sun went down, the yellow moon and twinkling stars came out, and we roasted a few marshmallows, before it was time to go home. That was a great day, thanks friends!

How Was Your Easter?

Ours was lots of fun, with great days spent with family and friends, and a ridiculous amount of treats, of course!

A fun picnic at the Gold Coast was a wonderful opportunity to catch up with aunties, uncles and cousins. There are a lot of good cooks and crafters in the Moorton family ...

Thank you, Auntie Karen, for these gorgeous little egg and pompom presents:

As usual, Jimmy had no self-control whatsoever when it came to chocolate.

He stuffed so much in, it backfired and he had to spit it out anyway. ;0) Thanks Uncle Kerry!
After the picnic we had a BEAUTIFUL moonlit swim in the surf. I wish I had got a photo, but I was too busy swimming and it was getting dark anyway. It was truly glorious, watching the moon rise over the water at dusk. We were very very lucky. How was your Easter? Did you enjoy the full moon too?
